Templin Scroll

Introduction

This is the biggest and best academic award that ENSOC offers. It way donated ages ago by Mr J R Templin who was the head of the Canterbury branch of IPENZ. It's open to any engineering student who is an ENSOC member. To enter just submit a technical report on any area of engineering or science. The winner will be exempt from one engineering practical work report. In the past 1st prize has been $500 and a $2000 outward bound scholarship. This prize is however being reviewed this year to make it more kick arse. Second prize is just a big wad of cash. Submission can be a research project worked on in your 3rd professional year. Other submissions can be made for ideas or proposed research topics of interest to Engineers. Templin Scroll submissions are ideally wanted to be short. An abstract is ideal with a summary and or plans for the research topic of interest. It will be noted that ideas of new research topics will be more valuable and with a slight advantage, however all submissions are wanted.

Watch this space for entry details and prize confirmation. Deadline will be in term 4.

The Templin Scroll is hung in the Engineering Library on the column right of the stairs on the ground floor.

History of the Templin Scroll

J R Templin, a prominent consultant electrical engineer, was the first Chairman of the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers. Throughout his career he took a keen interest in the Engineering Society. In 1941 he donated the Templin Scroll Award to the society and followed this with a further donation of the Templin Prize in 1945. His awards were made with the intention of encouraging engineers in the art of presenting their subject to others.
