Society
The Engineering Society (ENSOC) was founded in 1897 as a medium for like minded scholars to discuss engineering issues. ENSOC has changed much since then and nowadays exists to promote the social experiences of its members and provides academic and faculty based services within the engineering school.
Renowned at Canterbury for its legendary BBQs, the largest ball in the southern hemisphere and the Undie 500 car rally (rated by FHM in the top 100 things to do before you die), the Society also organizes various other events such as the insane Back to School pub crawl and Hokitika Wild Foods road trip, all events being a social necessity in the life of an engineering student.

ENSOC is a student chapter of the Institute of Professional Engineers (IPENZ). We represent the engineering students' interests at both the industry and at faculty level. In conjunction with IPENZ, ENSOC provides factory tours, company visits and an annual Careers and Recruitment Expo.
The society recruits members at enrolment and orientation – but if you missed out, you can get a membership from Amanda and the shop team at the ENSOC shop beside the engineering cafe
