History
The Engineering Society (ENSOC) was founded in 1897 by Prof. Robert J Scott, and is one of the oldest surviving student clubs at the University of Canterbury (The other being the Christian Union). R J Scott also established the School itself only 10 years prior. ENSOC was established as a medium for scholars to discuss important engineering issues and fraternize.
ENSOC nowadays specialises in promoting the social experiences of its members through a number of functions and activities. Renowned at Canterbury for its legendary BBQs, the largest Ball in Christchurch and the Undie 500 car rally, the Society also organises the IPENZ Graduation Dinner, the Back to School Pub Crawl and student staff sporting fixtures.
