Brockett Cup

The Brocket Cup is a glorious trophy bestowed to the winning team of the annual rugby match between the Schools of Engineering at Auckland and Canterbury.  The match is by no means a new idea, infact one year a lecturer at UC, an ex-pilot of the RNZAF, seconded a plane and flew the team up to Ardmore to play footie! The competition seems to have been quite erratic in the past; prior to 2004, The last known game was held on the infamous 1989 trip to Wellington, the aftermath that ensued saw the entire UC student population banned from using the Ferry.

It was decided that what this competition, between NZ's two oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions required was a trophy, and in 2004, ENSOC Stalwart and past Chairman David Brockett bequeathed a handsome 18 inch copper "Brockett Cup" for the game.

The Brockett Cup challenge coincides each year with the Student Engineering Symposium in Wellington.  During the inaugural year, at the closing function, Mr D J P Brockett ESQ announced the Cup rules:

1. Only winning team members are allowed to drink from the Cup

2. While one drinks, another shall pour.

3. The cup remains at the one venue the entire night.
